TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County. I hope you were able to enjoy at least one of the many events that happened all around the county this past weekend. This newsletter is committed to keeping 99% of our content strictly focused on Fayette County news. However, we know that we don't truly live in a bubble (even though we call it that). When a regional event is massive enough to impact our neighborhoods, like the World Cup, we will cover it, ensuring you understand exactly how the biggest Atlanta news affects us here at home.

THE DIGEST

Atlanta 2026 World Cup Games Set

Atlanta is gearing up for a massive summer of soccer, having been selected to host eight World Cup matches, including a prestigious semifinal on July 15. The schedule is highlighted by two appearances from the star-studded Spanish national team, bringing global attention to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The confirmed group stage lineup features Spain vs. Cabo Verde (June 15), South Africa vs. a European playoff winner (June 18), Spain vs. Saudi Arabia (June 21), Morocco vs. Haiti (June 24), and Uzbekistan vs. an intercontinental playoff winner (June 27). Beyond the group stage, the city will host knockout rounds on July 1 (potentially featuring England) and July 7 (potentially featuring Argentina), culminating in the semifinal.

Why does this matter for Fayette County? With such a massive influx of international visitors, our community is expected to see significant spillover at local hotels, restaurants, and stores. For local business owners, the time is now to start preparing to capitalize on what promises to be the region's biggest event since the 1996 Olympics.

Town Square Jewelers Closing

After 33 years of serving Fayetteville, Alex and Paula Rodriguez are retiring and closing the doors to their award-winning Town Square Jewelers by the end of 2025. This closure marks the end of a rich family legacy, which began with Alex's father, Walter, a renowned NYC jewelry model maker whose clientele included elite figures like Elizabeth Taylor and the late Queen Elizabeth. Alex, who spent 40 years as a mechanic (starting as Delta's youngest), opened the store with his parents and is now retiring because his own children aren't interested in the trade. For one last visit, the store is hosting a final "going out of business sale," currently offering up to 70% off, plus an additional 20% discount.

Fayette’s Championship Pickleball

The paddles were flying and the courts were electric this past weekend as Peachtree City hosted the high-stakes APC Championship Series at the Ace Pickleball Club. The tournament brought together the region's top players to compete in intense Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles matches across various skill levels on both Saturday and Sunday. The winners and top finishers earned qualification points and the chance to represent Fayette County in a lottery drawing for the prestigious APC National Championship in January 2026. The atmosphere demonstrated the explosive popularity of the sport here in Fayette County.
