Good morning, Fayette County.
Well, it finally happened. Georgia remembered it was Georgia.
After a pretty forgiving start to summer, the humidity came roaring back yesterday like it had been waiting behind a tree. Now we’re staring down a weekend that starts flirting with the 90s, which means we have officially entered the part of the year where every outdoor plan needs water, shade, and at least one person saying, “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.”
On top of that, the World Cup kicks off tomorrow, and I’m curious to see what kind of ripple effect we feel down here. Atlanta’s first match is Monday, with Spain taking on Cabo Verde at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Between the soccer, the visitors, and the summer heat, metro Atlanta is about to feel very awake.

Gerresheimer has expanded production and logistics capacity at its Peachtree City operations as demand for medical supplies continues to grow. The German medtech company manufactures medical devices locally, including inhalers, infusion system components, microinjectors, microbiology test cards, and autoinjectors. The expansion began in 2024 as a $180 million, two-stage project.
The first stage added an 83,000-square-foot building next to the existing plant, including new cleanroom production areas and an automated high-bay warehouse. The second stage added a separate 110,000-square-foot plant near Atlanta Regional Airport, with more cleanroom space and another automated warehouse. The project has added more than 400 jobs, upgraded internal logistics, and introduced automated storage systems that help track and move medical device components safely and efficiently.
Local nonprofit In Ryan’s Name has installed a Narcan distribution box at Fayette Treatment Services, giving Fayette County residents another place to access overdose prevention resources. The box was previously located at Fayette CARE Clinic but had to be moved after the clinic closed. The box includes lifesaving supplies such as Narcan and fentanyl test strips and is available to the public around the clock with no questions asked. While Fayette Treatment Services primarily serves participants in Fayette County Accountability Courts, the resources are open to anyone who needs them. The box is located at 300 Lee Street in Fayetteville. Another In Ryan’s Name distribution box is also available at Healing Bridge Clinic in Peachtree City.
Recent Sandy Creek High School graduate Sam Brown has been named the 2026 Georgia Boys Track & Field Positive Athlete Award winner. Brown, who also served as Sandy Creek’s 2026 valedictorian, was the only Fayette County student-athlete selected for the honor this year. The award recognizes more than athletic performance. Nominees are evaluated for qualities such as optimism, encouragement of teammates, servant leadership, compassion for others, accountability, consistent effort, and putting the team ahead of themselves. Brown and the other statewide winners were recognized during an awards ceremony at the Georgia State Capitol. The honor adds another impressive achievement to Brown’s senior year and gives Sandy Creek another reason to celebrate one of its standout graduates.

That’s it for today’s Fayette Flyer. One of the funny things about local life is how much is happening right under our noses. A sign goes up in a window and suddenly everyone is asking the same question: “What’s going there?”
That’s the kind of stuff I’m trying to keep track of here.
So if you see something around Fayette County that makes you curious, send it my way. A new business, a community event, a youth sports registration, a school update, a great local story, or even just a rumor worth checking out.
And if this issue helped you feel a little more in the loop, forward it to someone who lives nearby.
Follow Fayette Flyer on Instagram and Facebook below for more updates between issues.
Have a great weekend!
