Good morning, Fayette County,
I hope you had a great Halloween weekend! Several of you sent in air show photos, and some of those shots were incredible. Thanks for sharing the view from your corner of the county!
We couldn’t have asked for much better Halloween weather, either. If your house is anything like mine, you’re now sitting on enough candy to last well into 2027. At least we have dessert covered for a while.
If the clock in your car suddenly disagrees with your phone, here’s your reminder: the clocks fell back an hour. Somehow, that one always takes me longer to adjust to than it should.
- Chad

Peachtree City’s newest ice cream shop is introducing itself with four hours of free scoops. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams opens Thursday, November 5, at The Avenue, 232 City Circle, Suite 800, with its public celebration running from 6 to 10 p.m.
The first 50 people in line will receive Jeni’s merchandise, and five guests will each win 52 scoops. To enter that drawing, download the Jeni’s app, join Splendid Rewards, and scan at the event.
The Fayette Chamber will hold a ribbon cutting earlier that afternoon, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Expect flavors including Brambleberry Crisp and Sticky Toffee Pudding. For future visits, Jeni’s offers free samples and half scoops, making it easier to try something new or pair two favorites.
Lake Horton regulars can look forward to smoother walks, with a few construction detours first.
Fayette County plans to refurbish nearly three miles of paved paths and resurface the park’s access roads and parking areas through the end of 2026. Crews will remove selected trees whose roots have damaged pavement, then regrade and repave the paths. New signs, mile markers, and pavement markings will follow.
Expect temporary closures as work moves through the park. The county aims to keep at least one path segment and boat ramp available, though visitors should follow posted restrictions.
County employees will handle nearly all the work, an approach officials estimate will save $1.5 million in outside construction costs. The 82-acre park at 1275 Antioch Road is expected to show off its improvements in 2027.
Scott Roberts is retiring November 6, but the firefighters and paramedics he helped prepare will carry his work forward.
Roberts joined Fayette County Fire and Emergency Services in July 1992 as a firefighter and paramedic. Over 34 years, he moved into emergency management, recruit training, and leadership of the department’s administration and EMS operations.
Hundreds of firefighters and emergency medical providers have come through the training program he helped develop. He also helped establish the county’s regional training center and launch its blood-transfusion program in August 2025, allowing crews to begin treatment before reaching a hospital.
That capability matters when transportation to a trauma center can take 30 to 45 minutes. Earlier this year, Roberts’ peers recognized his contributions by naming him Region 4 EMS Director of the Year.
