Good morning, Fayette County.
It’s graduation week around here, which means a lot of families are getting ready to watch their seniors take that long walk across the stage and into whatever comes next. If you know one of them, make sure you congratulate them. They’ve earned it.
But after the photos are taken, the caps are tossed, and the cake is gone, keep checking in on them. That first year after high school can be exciting, but it can also be a humbling introduction to the real world. Plans shift. Jobs are tougher than expected. College feels different once you’re actually there. Some graduates may feel like they’re supposed to have life figured out already, even though most grown adults are still working on that themselves.
So celebrate the Class of 2026 this week, loudly and proudly. Then keep encouraging them in the months ahead. A little patience, a little guidance, and a steady reminder that they’re not alone can mean more than you realize.
Congratulations to the Class of 2026. We’re all rooting for you.

The 42,000-square-foot facility will replace the aging Kiwanis Park building and is being funded through the 2023 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST. Once complete, it will offer indoor sports courts, a walking and running track, fitness areas, a community kitchen, meeting rooms, offices, changing rooms, and other support spaces.
Leadership Fayette is now accepting applications for its 2026-27 class, giving local residents a chance to grow their civic knowledge, leadership skills, and connections across the community. The program was started by the Fayette Chamber of Commerce in 1980 and is designed for both existing and emerging leaders who want to better understand Fayette County and serve the community. Participants take part in hands-on learning focused on economic development, community awareness, and the connections between local businesses, organizations, and public services. Applications will be reviewed by an advisory committee made up of Leadership Fayette alumni and program chairs. Selected members of the Class of 2027 will be notified in mid-June and publicly announced in August. The program is open to the community and does not require Chamber membership. Details are available through the Fayette Chamber’s website.
