Good morning, Fayette County.

I have a habit of reading several books at the same time. Around my house, there is usually a business book half-finished in one room, a biography face down somewhere else, a novel waiting on a bookmark, and then some oddball title I picked up because the cover or the idea got the better of me. I am not the world’s biggest collector of quotes, but I read one this week that stuck with me:

“The enemy of art is the absence of limitations.”

It is a funny thing, because most of us spend a lot of time wishing we had fewer limits. More time. More space. More money. More help. A clearer calendar. A quieter inbox. But a lot of good things are made because of the limits, not in spite of them.

Crash Expert: “This Looks Like 1929” → 71,105 Diversifying Here

Mark Spitznagel, who made $1B in a single day during the 2015 flash crash, warned markets are mimicking 1929. Seems extreme but we did just see the worst quarter for the S&P since 2022.

So it’s not so surprising that Vanguard and Goldman Sachs forecasted 5% and 3% annual S&P returns respectively for 2024-2034.

Late last year, Apollo’s chief economist Torsten Slok put it this way: "expect zero in return in the S&P 500 over the coming decade."

So, what’s something investors can actually do to diversify this week?

Almost no one knows this, but postwar and contemporary art appreciated 10.2% annually with near-zero correlation to equities from 1995–2025 overall.*

And sure… billionaires like Bezos can make headlines at auction, but what about the rest of us?

Masterworks makes it possible to invest in legendary artworks by Banksy, Basquiat, Picasso, and more – without spending millions.

29 exits. Net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6%, and 17.8% on works held over 1 year+. $1.3 billion invested. 500+ offerings.*

THE DIGEST

Fayette Seniors Earn More Than $49 Million in Scholarships

Fayette County’s Class of 2026 is heading into graduation season with a long list of accomplishments. Students from Fayette County Public Schools’ five high schools earned more than $49.3 million in scholarships, not including the HOPE Scholarship. That total is up 16% from last year. The class also earned admission to 3,747 colleges and universities, including Ivy League schools Cornell University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University. Eight Fayette students also received appointments to U.S. service academies, including the Air Force Academy, Naval Academy, Merchant Marine Academy, and Coast Guard Academy. Those appointments are highly competitive and require strong academics, leadership, and physical qualifications. It is a strong showing for Fayette County students, families, teachers, and school communities as the Class of 2026 gets ready for what comes next.

Grady Avenue Reopens After Water Main Break Repairs

A portion of Grady Avenue near the Glynn Street South, or Highway 85, intersection has reopened after a water main break caused major damage to the roadway. The stretch had been closed since Wednesday, May 13, while Fayetteville Public Services crews repaired the water main, secured underground utilities, and rebuilt and repaved the road. City Public Services Director Cajen Rhodes thanked residents for their patience, noting that the damage required crews to essentially rebuild the roadway from scratch. A precautionary boil-water advisory was issued after the water main was reactivated, but water quality tests came back clear and the advisory has since been lifted. GDOT is also expected to complete additional intersection work as part of an upcoming Highway 85 repaving project from Ramah Road to Don Easterbrook Way.

Starr’s Mill Tunnel Project Celebrated With Ribbon Cutting

Fayette County and Peachtree City celebrated the Starr’s Mill Tunnel and Path Project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The project, which opened in July 2025, recently received the APWA Georgia Chapter Project of the Year award, recognizing its impact on local safety and infrastructure. The tunnel and path system gives pedestrians, bicyclists, and golf cart users a safer way to travel between nearby neighborhoods and schools. It provides a grade-separated crossing that helps students and residents reach Peeples Elementary, Rising Starr Middle, and Starr’s Mill High School without crossing heavy vehicle traffic. The project was funded through Fayette County’s 2017 SPLOST program and is a practical improvement for one of the county’s busiest school corridors.
