I’m sure I’m not the only one feeling this way in late August, but I am officially ready for a change in the weather.
Maybe it is the weeks of heat and humidity. Maybe it was the pumpkin Munchkin I tried at Dunkin the other day. Whatever did it, my brain has apparently decided fall is close enough to start getting excited about.
I’m so ready that I actually went through my sweatshirts and hoodies this weekend to make sure they were still in good shape for cooler weather. Never mind that putting one on right now would probably result in heat exhaustion before I made it to the mailbox.
We still have plenty of Georgia summer left, but we are getting closer. Before long, those first cool mornings will show up, the humidity will finally back off, and sitting outside will stop feeling like a punishment.

Fayetteville native and Whitewater High School graduate Zach John King continues to make his mark in country music, appearing at the 2026 ACM Honors in Nashville on August 19. King performed during the event and helped present awards as his national profile continues to grow. He has built an audience of nearly 2 million monthly listeners on Spotify, toured with Morgan Wallen, and made his Grand Ole Opry debut earlier this year. Next up is the release of his first full-length album, I’m What You Get, on August 28. The 20-song project draws heavily from King’s life, family, and upbringing in Fayetteville. It is another milestone for a local musician whose career has quickly moved from Fayette County to some of country music’s biggest stages.
CAF Airbase Georgia is preparing for a major expansion at Falcon Field, and Delta Air Lines is helping get the effort off the ground. Delta has signed on as title sponsor of the organization’s first Moonlight Swing fundraiser, planned for October in Peachtree City. Proceeds will support an expansion of Airbase Georgia’s hangar and educational facilities, creating additional space for historic aircraft restoration, exhibits, programs, and community events. The organization is also developing Aviation Futures Day, a new program designed to introduce high school students to careers in aviation and connect them with employers and educational opportunities. Airbase Georgia maintains and flies a collection of historic military aircraft while using them to teach visitors about aviation and World War II history.
Fayette County has started work on its next Comprehensive Plan, a long-range guide used to help shape decisions about growth, transportation, development, land use, and community needs. The plan is updated every five years and looks ahead at how the county may change and what infrastructure and services could be needed as that happens. This time, Fayette County is coordinating parts of the process with the City of Fayetteville to create more consistent planning along areas where the two jurisdictions meet. Residents and local business owners will also have opportunities to participate and provide feedback as the plan develops. The finished document will serve as a roadmap for future planning decisions and help guide how Fayette County manages growth over the coming years.
