On Monday morning, I was taking a walk through the backyard when I heard what sounded like a school bus making its first-day rounds. A few seconds later, I realized it was not a school bus at all. It was the garbage truck driving past my house.
That realization arrived just late enough for me to look at the completely full trash can sitting nowhere near the curb and understand that I had missed my chance. Now I have to spend the next week pretending my household can suddenly become a model of waste reduction, all to avoid an overflowing can or an unwanted trip to the dump.
I am sure I am not the only person who has watched the garbage truck disappear down the street while mentally replaying every opportunity I had to put the can out. So, for anyone whose trash is collected on Thursdays, consider this your friendly reminder.

Fayetteville’s Chick-fil-A Dwarf House is expected to close later this year and be replaced by a larger Truett’s Chick-fil-A restaurant. Planning documents indicate the current building at 221 Banks Station, which recently marked 35 years in business, would be demolished to make way for a new 7,500-square-foot location. The existing restaurant is approximately 6,300 square feet, making the proposed replacement nearly 20 percent larger. The project would continue Chick-fil-A’s gradual retirement of its classic Dwarf House restaurants. Similar locations in Newnan, Stockbridge, Rome, Woodstock, and Duluth have already been demolished or converted.
Marcus Hawkins has been selected as the new head coach of the McIntosh High School boys basketball program. Hawkins takes over following the retirement of longtime coach Jason Eisele, who led the Chiefs for 20 seasons. He brings extensive experience to Peachtree City, including previous coaching stops in Georgia and Florida. Most recently, Hawkins coached the girls basketball team at Berkmar High School. Earlier in his career, he won state championships while leading both boys and girls programs in Florida, giving him a strong track record of building successful teams. McIntosh will now begin a new chapter under Hawkins as the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season. His hiring brings a proven championship coach to a program that has enjoyed years of stability and success.
Fayette County High School will celebrate 60 years of the Marching Tigers during the school’s September 25 home football game against Riverdale. Former band members are being invited to return for the anniversary and take part in the evening’s festivities. The celebration will recognize six decades of students, directors, families, and supporters who helped build the marching band’s tradition at Fayette County High. The City of Fayetteville is also expected to recognize September 25 as Marching Tigers Day, adding a communitywide tribute to the milestone. Organizers are encouraging alumni to reconnect with former classmates and join the current band for the celebration. Additional details about alumni participation and the game-night schedule are expected to be released as the event approaches.

What: Scud Runner is an after-dinner speakeasy experience held among the historic World War II aircraft at CAF Airbase Georgia. The evening will include live blues from Cannonball Red & The Head Hunters, candlelit tables and curated tastings from Georgia wineries and distilleries. Guests will enter through a hidden entrance, and representatives from the participating beverage makers will be available to discuss the selections.
