I’ve been putting together the Flyer long enough to start noticing a few trends, and lately one stands out: we may be in the middle of a cover-band boom.
In any given month, you can usually find at least one group paying tribute to a familiar artist, decade, or genre. It makes sense. Original bands have to win over a crowd one song at a time, while cover bands arrive with decades of memories already built in. Songs people first heard on vinyl, cassette tapes, CDs, or the radio.
That familiarity is part of the fun. A good cover band gives everyone in the room permission to sing along, dance, and relive a particular moment in their lives. For venues, it is a dependable draw. For audiences, it is an easy night out with a soundtrack they already know.
None of that takes away from the thrill of discovering original music, but right now, nostalgia seems to be filling plenty of seats.

The construction underway on the former Adams Farm property along Highway 54 West is for a temporary parking lot serving workers at the nearby QTS data center project. Plans call for 715 parking spaces across three parcels totaling nearly 27 acres. The property was rezoned from a manufactured home park designation to office-institutional, with the long-term intention of redeveloping it for office use after construction at QTS is completed. The project also requires the removal of existing structures, compliance with watershed and environmental rules, and construction of a 12-foot-wide multi-use path along the property. Developers have said the parking lot could remain in use for several years while work continues at QTS.
McIntosh High School teacher Chris Judy recently traveled to Gettysburg National Military Park as part of a year-long fellowship with the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center. Judy joined educators from Georgia and Tennessee for several days of battlefield tours, historical discussions, and behind-the-scenes experiences designed to deepen their understanding of the Battle of Gettysburg and its lasting impact on American history. The group studied key locations including Seminary Ridge, Devil’s Den, Little Round Top, Cemetery Ridge, and the Gettysburg National Cemetery. They also heard from historians, a retired four-star general, and Medal of Honor recipient Jim McCloughan. Judy said the experience inspired him to explore difficult historical topics more deeply and use personal stories to make those lessons more meaningful for students. He is already incorporating new ideas into his classes for the coming school year. The trip was supported by the Fields and Bell families, Osborne Foundation, American Legion Post 14, and the Gettysburg Foundation. Free fellowship lesson plans aligned with Georgia standards are available through the Medal of Honor Heritage Center’s website.
The U.S. Under-16 Girls’ National Team will return to Fayetteville for a training camp at the Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center from July 24 through August 2. The 24-player roster will face Mexico twice on Field 3, with matches scheduled for Wednesday, July 29 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, August 1 at 10 a.m. This will be the team’s second camp at U.S. Soccer’s new national headquarters. The players are working toward qualification for the 2027 FIFA Under-17 Women’s World Cup. The team has already played nine international matches this year against several of Europe’s strongest youth programs, compiling five wins, two losses, and two draws. The roster includes players from 19 youth clubs across the country.

2026 Fayette Advanced Manufacturing & Industry Network

Red Cross Blood Drive at Peachtree City Library

What: The Peachtree City Library is partnering with the American Red Cross for a community blood drive. Appointments can be made using the sponsor code “PTClibrary,” although walk-ins will also be accepted as space permits. Donors should bring an identification card and allow additional time for registration and screening.

Summer Movies in the Park: “Lilo & Stitch”

What: Fayetteville’s outdoor movie series continues with a screening of “Lilo & Stitch.” Families are encouraged to bring blankets, lawn chairs and picnic supplies. RAR Street Kings Car Show

Moth Night Pajama Party

Dixie Belle Furniture Painting Workshop

What: Learn how to transform old furniture using Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint during this hands-on workshop hosted by Junk Mama's General Store. Scud Runner at CAF Airbase Georgia

What: Scud Runner is an after-dinner speakeasy experience held among the historic World War II aircraft at CAF Airbase Georgia. The evening will include live blues from Cannonball Red & The Head Hunters, candlelit tables and curated tastings from Georgia wineries and distilleries. Guests will enter through a hidden entrance, and representatives from the participating beverage makers will be available to discuss the selections. The event is for ages 21 and older, cashless and subject to a dress code shared with ticket holders.
