Drivers should prepare for a major traffic shift at the intersection of Highway 54 and Highway 74 in Peachtree City beginning July 30. Under the new pattern, motorists turning left from Highway 74 onto Highway 54 will move into special left-turn lanes at the two outer traffic signals. Drivers continuing straight through the intersection on either highway will use the center signal. The design, known as a displaced left-turn intersection, moves left-turning vehicles across opposing traffic before they reach the main intersection. This allows left turns and through traffic to move at the same time, which is intended to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow. The change could be delayed by weather or construction conditions. Drivers should expect temporary delays, slow down, and use extra caution while adjusting to the new layout.
A longtime Fayetteville tradition will continue this grape season as Paula Nipper Dempsey takes over Banks Vineyard, the farm founded by her grandparents, Effie and Raymond Banks. The vineyard began after the couple planted additional grapes to meet growing demand from people stopping along the road to buy fruit. As the farm expanded, it began selling produce from a small roadside barn, and the surrounding road was officially named Banks Road in 1964. Dempsey plans to open the vineyard around mid-August for visitors to pick their own muscadines and scuppernongs. She said she is doing everything she can to preserve the farm and carry the family tradition into another generation. Banks Vineyard is located at 290 Banks Road in Fayetteville. Exact opening dates and picking availability will depend on when the grapes are ready.
Fayetteville farmer and Navy veteran Lori Grant has received a $1,000 grant through a partnership between Tractor Supply Company and the Farmer Veteran Coalition. Grant operates a small agricultural business on half an acre with two greenhouses, using sustainable and organic methods to grow vegetables, herbs, berries, flowers, grapes, fruit trees, and poultry. She also provides plant-care services and sells products through local farmers markets and social media. The funding will help Grant improve production efficiency, expand her plant inventory, and strengthen direct-to-consumer sales. Grant was one of 50 veterans selected to receive a $1,000 Tractor Supply gift card through the coalition’s Fellowship Fund. Tractor Supply donated $100,000 to the program this year and has contributed $750,000 since 2018 to support more than 450 veteran farmers nationwide. Truett’s Luau in Fayetteville will temporarily close beginning July 30 as the restaurant prepares for a round of renovations. The Hawaiian-themed Chick-fil-A location plans to improve both its dining room and drive-thru during the closure. The restaurant expects to reopen in mid-October with an updated experience for customers. Truett’s Luau has become one of Fayette County’s more distinctive dining destinations, combining familiar Chick-fil-A favorites with tropical-inspired menu items and decor. The temporary closure will keep the restaurant unavailable for much of the late summer and early fall. Additional details about the renovations and an exact reopening date are expected to be announced as work progresses.

Adoptable at Fayette County Animal Control
Monday begins quietly before the Fayette County Zoning Board of Appeals meets at 7:00 PM in the first-floor Public Meeting Room at the Fayette County Administrative Complex, 140 Stonewall Avenue West in Fayetteville. Peachtree City residents should also note that the Planning Commission meeting originally scheduled for Monday has been canceled.
Tuesday carries most of the week’s activity. The Fayette County Board of Elections and Voter Registration meets at 5:00 PM in Suite 100 of the county administrative complex. With no detailed agenda available yet, the safest description is that the board will handle routine election-administration business and provide an opportunity for public comment. At 6:00 PM, the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission meets in the Council Chambers at Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Stonewall Avenue West. Tuesday concludes at 6:30 PM with the Peachtree City Transportation Advisory Group meeting at the Convention and Visitors Bureau, 191 McIntosh Trail. The group gives residents a formal place to weigh in on transportation issues, particularly the city’s multi-use path network and other projects that affect how people move around Peachtree City.
Wednesday appears quiet.
Thursday’s only confirmed meeting begins at 10:00 AM, when the Fayette County 911 Communications Board convenes in the Administrative Conference Room at the county administrative complex.

What: Scud Runner is an after-dinner speakeasy experience held among the historic World War II aircraft at CAF Airbase Georgia. The evening will include live blues from Cannonball Red & The Head Hunters, candlelit tables and curated tastings from Georgia wineries and distilleries. Guests will enter through a hidden entrance, and representatives from the participating beverage makers will be available to discuss the selections. The event is for ages 21 and older, cashless and subject to a dress code shared with ticket holders.
