Good morning, Fayette County.

A community is a living thing, and like any living thing, it periodically sheds its skin. We see it every day in the fresh siding on homes, the new name on a familiar storefront, or the way the road you’ve always taken suddenly gets a roundabout. It is easy to get caught up in the "new," but beneath the dust of renovation lies much more.

This is the invisible architecture of a place: the handshake that still matters, the way we show up for a neighbor in a time of need, and the shared memory of where we’ve been. Paint may fade and buildings may rise, but the character of a community is the one layer that isn't meant to be painted over. This week, while the world around us stays busy changing, let’s take a moment to appreciate the parts of Fayette County that are truly built to last.

As we enter Holy Week, we are centering our lives on the unchanging Word in a world that never stops shifting. We are reminded that while the exterior of our lives and our towns may be renovated, God stands firm. Let’s look past the temporary and anchor ourselves in the Eternal.

THE DIGEST

Fayetteville Preserves the Legacy of Local Art Icons

Fayetteville recently reached a historic milestone in local arts, honoring legendary muralists Ed and Patsy Gullet for over three decades of community impact. During a special ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Ed Johnson celebrated the couple's iconic 119 Glynn Street South mural, a downtown landmark that has defined the city’s aesthetic since the 1990s. The event featured a "Legacy in Art" tribute and the unveiling of a framed mural photograph, which will now be permanently displayed in the City Hall lobby to archive their creative contribution. While the original site undergoes renovation and reimagining, the Gullets’ artistic standard remains the heartbeat of downtown Fayetteville. Residents can even take home a piece of this history; Patsy Gullet is offering printed versions of the mural for those who call or text 770-241-9591.

Fayetteville PD Bolsters School Security with Specialized New K9 Asset

The Fayetteville Police Department is elevating its safety protocols with a specialized new asset: K9 Dinah, a chocolate lab expertly trained in explosives and firearms detection. This high-caliber K9 joins forces with School Resource Officer M. Fox to provide a proactive, sophisticated layer of defense within our local schools and community. By identifying hazardous materials with precision and speed, Dinah is a critical addition to the city’s commitment to secure learning environments. Following a final training intensive at the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office facility this April, the team will be fully operational. Look for this powerhouse duo to maintain a high-visibility presence at school and community events throughout the year, marking a bold step forward in Fayetteville’s modern policing and safety engagement!
