Crossing Guard Injured, City's Crime Drops, and an Eventful Weekend. Local Fayette County News.

By Fayette Flyer Staff

Share:

Good morning, Fayette County.

Growing up in Fayetteville, the standard Saturday afternoon usually involved a lot of trying to find something worth doing. Back then, "quiet" was just the default setting for our county. Those days are officially in the rearview mirror.

This weekend is easily the busiest I have ever put together in the history of the Fayette Flyer. It’s a complete 180 from the Fayetteville of my youth. We are looking at a calendar that covers every possible speed: the high-energy Easter Eggstravaganza at Trilith expected to bring in thousands and the Little River Band rocking the stage on Saturday night, to local live music at Grazing Here and quiet book sales at the library.

If you want to dive into a massive crowd for a community block party or just find a quiet corner for a puzzle swap, you’ll find it below. There truly is something for every pace this weekend. Scroll down, find your lane, and have some fun.

THE DIGEST

Peachtree City's First Annual Report Shows Crime Drop

Peachtree City released its first consolidated annual report this week, compiling 2025 data into a single year-end snapshot. The headline numbers are impressive: a 28.7% reduction in crime, with thefts down 35.2%. The police department expanded its school resource officer program from three officers to eight, and average emergency response times held steady at 2.3 minutes. Employee turnover dropped to 10.9% from 16.1% the previous year. Mayor Kim Learnard called the report "comprehensive and very, very impressive."

PTC Council Approves Public Art Plan, Police Station Renovations, and Path Rules

Peachtree City Council approved a slate of projects at its March 19 meeting, including a public art master plan, a $406,090 contract for police station renovations, and an increase in the stormwater utility rate to $14/month for single-family homes. Council also advanced updates to chapters 70 and 78 of the city code governing the multi-use path system, including banning e-motos capable of exceeding 20 mph. Councilman Clint Holland expressed enthusiasm for the art plan: "I absolutely love this thing."

Beloved Kedron Elementary crossing guard "Mr. Dave" injured, community rallies

Peachtree City Police are investigating after 74-year-old crossing guard David Spatz was hit by a vehicle Monday morning in front of Kedron Elementary School. Known to students as "Mr. Dave," Spatz suffered a fractured skull and brain bleeds and remains in the ICU at Grady Memorial Hospital. The driver stayed on scene. A GoFundMe has already raised thousands from families and community members who describe Spatz as "far more than a crossing guard, a daily hero" who made children feel "seen, safe, and special."
