Good morning, Fayette County.
Did anyone else catch the Artemis II rocket launch yesterday? Four humans strapped to a rocket, sent to circle the moon and come home. There is something deeply moving about that kind of mission. The willingness to leave everything familiar behind and hope that what lies ahead is worth the risk.
With Easter just a few days away, the parallel feels particularly strong. Both stories involve a journey into a great unknown that changes everything for those of us watching from the ground. One is a feat of human courage and engineering. The other is a story of sacrifice and resurrection. Both of them invite us to look up and believe that the darkness is not the end of the story.
As we move through Holy Week and toward Sunday morning, I hope you find that same sense of wonder. If you are looking for a place to celebrate Easter, I have put together a list of service times for churches across Fayette County below.

On the afternoon of Monday, March 30, 2026, City of Fayetteville contractors successfully contained an 8,000-gallon sewer overflow near 272 North Glynn Street. The spill was triggered by a severe downstream blockage that forced wastewater out of the system and into a tributary of Gingercake Creek. Upon investigation, city crews discovered that the line was obstructed by a combination of congealed grease, rags, and several discarded mopheads. Contractors have since removed the debris and mitigated the environmental impact, and while no road closures or service interruptions were reported, city officials have increased monitoring in the area to prevent future incidents. In light of the spill, the city is reminding residents that the sewer system is not a trash can. Disposing of grease and cleaning materials down the drain creates significant blockages that directly threaten the health of local waterways.
Kedron Elementary School crossing guard David Spatz, 74, has been released from Grady Memorial Hospital after being hit by a vehicle while helping students cross the street on March 23. Spatz suffered a skull fracture and brain bleed in the incident. His wife is now calling for safety improvements, including illuminated crossing signs and lighted walkways near schools. A community fundraiser organizer is encouraging Fayette County residents to contact their elected leaders about the issue.
Spring Hill Elementary School hosted the first official meeting of the reestablished Fayette County PTO Alliance, drawing parent leaders from seven elementary schools across the district. The Alliance aims to strengthen collaboration, share fundraising strategies, and improve outcomes at every school. "We're all one, working toward the same goal of betterment for our schools," said Crabapple Lane Elementary PTO President Brittany Mynatt. Quarterly meetings and working groups are planned, and all Fayette County elementary schools are invited to join.
