I hope you had a great Fourth of July weekend and got to enjoy the kind of celebration America’s 250th birthday deserved.
I spent part of mine watching what I thought was going to be a simple neighborhood fireworks show. My neighbor described it pretty casually, like he had picked up a few boxes for fun. Then he walked out with one of those remote firing systems, and suddenly we had a full production going in the yard. It was impressive, and honestly, a pretty perfect way to end the night.
But once the smoke clears and the folding chairs get packed back into the garage, the bigger thought is still there. The signing of the Declaration of Independence was not the finish line. It was the beginning of a long, difficult, remarkable project. Freedom had to be defended. Generations had to decide whether the country they inherited was worth preserving and improving. Now that responsibility is ours for a little while.
So here’s to 250 years behind us, and to doing our part so that our descendants can look back one day and celebrate 500.

The 4th Annual RoboGeorgia Summit will bring robotics, automation and AI leaders to Fayetteville this August, with the main summit set for Thursday, August 20 at Trilith LIVE. The event will focus on how artificial intelligence is moving beyond digital models and into real-world machines, factories and work sites. Attendees can expect keynote presentations from Bill Nussey of Tech Square Ventures and Aaron Prather of Six Degrees of Robotics, along with panels covering defense, agriculture, startups and workforce development. A networking reception is also planned for Wednesday, August 19 at the TSQATL Clubhouse in Atlanta. Thursday’s Fayetteville program will include live hardware demonstrations and a Robot Parade, giving attendees a closer look at robotics in motion.
The Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Fayetteville will host its first women’s international matches this month as the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team gathers for a July 5–16 training camp. The U.S. team will face England on July 9 at 6 PM and Colombia on July 12 at 8 PM. England and Colombia will also play each other on July 15. The matches will be the first held on the newly completed Fields 1 and 2 on the west side of the training center, which include a custom observation deck. The camp is the team’s final stop before head coach Vicky Jepson selects the roster for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland. U.S. Soccer has not yet posted public ticket information or confirmed whether the matches will be open to spectators, so residents should treat this as a notable local sports milestone rather than a public event for now.
Fayette County is opening registration for its Citizen Workshop Series, an eight-week program aimed at residents who live in unincorporated parts of the county. The series begins September 8 and continues each Tuesday through October 27 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Fayette County Public Meeting Room, 140 Stonewall Avenue West in Fayetteville. The program is designed to give residents a clearer look at how county government operates outside city limits. Participants will hear from county department leaders, learn how local decisions are made, and get a better understanding of how to contact staff, follow county business, and take part in public life. Space is limited, and registration is available through Fayette County’s online form. Residents can also call 770-305-5103 for more information.

The week begins Tuesday afternoon with the Fayette County Transportation Committee meeting at 1:30 PM at the Fayette County Administrative Complex, 140 Stonewall Avenue West, Suite 100, in Fayetteville. This is the county group to watch if roads, sidewalks, paths, intersections, traffic flow, or transportation-related SPLOST projects are on your radar.
Wednesday appears quiet. Fayette County’s Water Committee normally meets on the second Wednesday, but the July 8 meeting is specifically posted as canceled.
Thursday the Fayette County Board of Commissioners holds its regular meeting at 5:00 PM in the Public Meeting Room at the Fayette County Administrative Complex, 140 Stonewall Avenue West, Suite 100, in Fayetteville. This is the main countywide meeting of the week for readers following county services, budgets, roads, land use, public safety, water, and other county business. Also Thursday, the Tyrone Planning Commission meets at 7:00 PM. Tyrone’s meeting directory confirms the July 9 Planning Commission meeting, and the town says Planning Commission meetings are held at Town Hall, 950 Senoia Road.

USA vs. Belgium Watch Party

Team USA Watch Party - World Cup
When: Monday, July 6, Match starts at 8:00 PM
What: Fairway Social Trilith is opening for a Team USA World Cup watch party as the U.S. takes on Belgium in the Round of 16. Fans can watch the match live on the big screens, grab drinks, settle into a bay or table, and cheer on the red, white, and blue with a crowd. A good local spot for anyone who wants the World Cup energy without making the drive into Atlanta.

Pinecrest Kids Camp: Emerald Crossing

What: Pinecrest Kids Camp is taking kids on an Irish-themed adventure through “Emerald Crossing,” where they’ll explore the words of Psalm 23 and learn how faith can help them move from worry to peace, fear to faith, and uncertainty to a firm foundation in God’s Word. The camp includes lessons, music, games, snacks, science, and crafts, and is open to kids who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade.
