Good morning, Fayette County.
Well, we made it. Two hundred and fifty years of the United States of America.
When you really stop and think about it, that is remarkable. In the long sweep of history, 250 years is not very old. There are countries, kingdoms, empires, and civilizations that stretch much farther back than we do. But what makes America so extraordinary is not just how long we have lasted. It is what we were founded on.
We broke away from the most powerful empire in the world and built a nation around a promise: “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
We have not always lived up to those words perfectly. No country made up of imperfect people ever could. But for two and a half centuries, those words have remained the measuring stick. They have challenged us, corrected us, inspired us, and reminded us what this country is supposed to be. That is a rare thing. A nation built not around a king, a bloodline, a dictator, or a ruling party, but around an idea. An idea that our rights do not come from government, but from God. An idea that liberty is worth defending. An idea that ordinary people should have a say in the future of their country.
How beautiful is that? And how blessed are we to call it home?

The Fayette County Board of Education has approved its Fiscal Year 2027 budget, with the general fund set at about $307.3 million. Chief Financial Officer Tom Gray said the spending plan is roughly $10 million higher than last year’s budget. Property taxes are expected to make up about half of the district’s funding, while state grants account for about 44 percent. Final tax digest numbers are still pending, and the board is expected to consider the millage rate later this year, likely around September. The budget was approved unanimously. Board members also heard an update on Senate Bill 123, which addresses chronic absenteeism and student cellphone use. The law calls for a bell-to-bell policy limiting personal electronic devices during the school day. They are not looking to discipline students, but will enforce the law.
Fayette County Parks and Recreation is asking residents to help shape plans for a new inclusive playground at McCurry Park. A public input meeting will be held July 20 at 6 PM in the Fayette County Public Meeting Room at 140 Stonewall Avenue West in Fayetteville. Residents will be able to review early design ideas, ask questions, and share feedback on features that would make the playground accessible and welcoming for children and families with different physical and sensory needs. The goal is to create a safe, fun, and inclusive space that reflects the families who use Fayette County parks. Community feedback from the meeting will help guide the final design as the project moves forward.
Clothes Less Traveled has kicked off its annual Backpack & School Supply Initiative to help K–12 students in Fayette and Coweta counties start the school year prepared. The nonprofit is collecting new backpacks, notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, binders, calculators, and other classroom basics for local students who need them. Donations will be distributed directly to children across both counties before the new school year begins. Items can be dropped off during regular business hours at Clothes Less Traveled’s Peachtree City shop at 459 Highway 74 South or its Newnan location at 10 The Boulevard, Suite 104. Monetary donations are also accepted and will be used to purchase additional supplies. Clothes Less Traveled has supported local charities, scholarships, and community programs for more than 25 years.

What: Peachtree City Library staff lead a Spanish practice class using Mango Languages. It is intended for ages 14 and up, seating is limited, registration is recommended, and participants should have some Spanish experience.

Living History: Courthouse Celebration
When: Friday, July 3, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
What: The Fayette Historical Society is helping kick off Fayetteville’s Independence Day weekend with a living history event downtown. Families can explore a Revolutionary War camp, meet reenactors, see a period-style wagon, and let kids sign the Declaration of Independence with quill and ink.

Celebrate America with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra and David Phelps
When: Friday, July 3, 7:00 PM
What: The Atlanta Pops Orchestra, conducted by Michael Giel, performs a patriotic concert with Grammy Award-winning vocalist David Phelps. The evening is part of Fayetteville’s Independence Day weekend celebration, and tickets are required.

Peachtree City July 4th Parade
When: Saturday, July 4, 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM
What: Peachtree City’s annual Fourth of July Parade returns for the city’s big Independence Day celebration. The parade begins at Village on the Green, travels along Peachtree Parkway, and ends at the McIntosh Trail Recreation Complex. Free to attend.

Woolsey Fourth of July Celebration
When: Saturday, July 4, 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
What: Woolsey is hosting a traditional Fourth of July celebration with cornhole, rope tug, watermelon, and food from The Varsity.

Bell Ringing at the Old Courthouse
When: Saturday, July 4, 2:00 PM
What: The Fayette Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution will gather on the Courthouse Square for a bell ringing ceremony honoring the signers of the Declaration of Independence. The event includes an honor guard, a traditional gun salute, and special museum hours from 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM.

Tyrone Fourth of July Celebration
When: Saturday, July 4, 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM
What: Tyrone is hosting a free community celebration at Shamrock Park with live music, food trucks, family fun, dancing, and fireworks. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Peachtree City Fourth Fest
When: Saturday, July 4, Drake Field opens at 1:00 PM; entertainment begins at 3:00 PM; drone show and fireworks after dark
What: Peachtree City’s Fourth Fest brings food trucks, kids’ activities, live music, a 250th anniversary ceremony, a drone show, and fireworks over Lake Peachtree. The lineup includes live music from the Luke Morgan Band at 3:00 PM, a 250th anniversary ceremony at 7:30 PM, a drone show around 9:20 PM, and fireworks around 9:35 PM.

Fayetteville Independence Day Celebration

What: Fayetteville’s Main Street celebration moves to City Center Park for an evening with food trucks, a DJ, inflatables for kids, vendors, and a fireworks show. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Pinecrest Kids Camp: Emerald Crossing
When: Wednesday, July 22 – Friday, July 24, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM each day
What: Pinecrest Kids Camp is taking kids on an Irish-themed adventure through “Emerald Crossing,” where they’ll explore the words of Psalm 23 and learn how faith can help them move from worry to peace, fear to faith, and uncertainty to a firm foundation in God’s Word. The camp includes lessons, music, games, snacks, science, and crafts, and is open to kids who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade.
