I am currently going through the process of renewing an expired passport, which meant stopping by the pharmacy and asking a 19-year-old who could not have cared less about his job to take my passport photo. Firehouse Subs is preparing to open a new location at Kedron Village Shopping Center in Peachtree City. The restaurant is expected to move into the former Subway space at 1013 North Peachtree Parkway, according to the shopping center’s leasing map. The storefront sits near Chicken Salad Chick, AT&T, and Singhs Cafe. Firehouse Subs is known for hot specialty sandwiches made with steamed meats and cheeses, along with salads, sides, and catering. The chain was founded by former firefighters and also supports public safety organizations through the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The new location will bring another restaurant option to a familiar space at Kedron Village. An opening date has not yet been announced.
Delta Community Credit Union is now accepting applications for its 2027 Philanthropic Fund Program, which will award 10 grants of $15,000 each to metro Atlanta nonprofits. The program supports organizations focused on helping families manage household finances and improving the physical and financial well-being of young people. Applications must be submitted online by 5 PM on August 31. Delta Community has distributed about $1.4 million to more than 260 organizations since launching the program in 2013. Previous recipients have used the funding for education, job training, medical services, and other forms of community support. The University of Georgia women’s club lacrosse team captured the WCLA national championship in May with help from three people connected to Starr’s Mill High School. Jackson McDaniel, a 2022 Starr’s Mill graduate, played attack for the Bulldogs during their 12-9 championship win over Clemson. The coaching staff also included former Panthers David King and Alyssa Angelo. King previously served as a longtime assistant coach at Starr’s Mill, while Angelo was a US Lacrosse All-American for the Panthers before playing at Winthrop and Kennesaw State. Georgia entered the tournament as the eighth seed but finished the season playing its strongest lacrosse. The title is the program’s second national championship and its first since 2016.

Fayette County Animal Control
Monday begins at 6:30 PM, the Peachtree City Planning Commission meets in the Community Room at City Hall, 151 Willowbend Road. This is the city board that reviews development matters and makes recommendations to the City Council on zoning and annexation requests, making it especially relevant when new construction or land-use changes are proposed. The evening closes with the Woolsey Town Council meeting from 7:00 to 8:00 PM at Woolsey Town Hall, 113 Hill Avenue. This is Woolsey’s regular monthly council meeting and covers the local policies, services and decisions affecting residents of the town. Peachtree City’s Recreation Advisory Group meeting scheduled for Monday morning has been canceled.
Economic development and tourism lead Wednesday’s schedule. At 8:00 AM, the Fayetteville Downtown Development Authority and Main Street Tourism Association Board of Directors meet in the second-floor Executive Conference Room at Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Stonewall Avenue West. The city’s most recent posted agenda specifically confirms July 15 as the next regular meeting. The board works on downtown investment, business activity, tourism and projects intended to strengthen Fayetteville’s city center.
On Thursday, Peachtree City is holding an Annexation Feasibility Study Community Open House from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the Peachtree City Library, 201 Willowbend Road. This is not a formal board meeting, but residents can stop by at any point during the four-hour window to learn about the study and provide input on potential annexation issues. At 6:00 PM, the Fayetteville City Council holds its regular meeting in the Council Chamber at Fayetteville City Hall, 210 Stonewall Avenue West. City Council meetings are where Fayetteville’s elected officials consider city services, ordinances, budgets, contracts and development-related business placed on the agenda.
Two meetings begin at 7:00 PM. The Tyrone Town Council meets at Town Hall, 950 Senoia Road, for its regular session on town policies and services. At the same time, the Fayette County Planning Commission meets in the first-floor Public Meeting Room near the fountain at the Stonewall Administrative Complex, 140 Stonewall Avenue West. The county’s official 2026 hearing schedule confirms July 16 as a Planning Commission hearing date. This is the meeting to watch for rezoning and land-use requests involving unincorporated Fayette County. Peachtree City’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Thursday has been canceled.
Home Run Derby Watch Party at Drake Field
When: Monday, July 13, 6:00 PM
What: Peachtree City Recreation and Special Events is hosting an outdoor watch party for Major League Baseball’s Home Run Derby. The evening will include the Derby shown on a large screen, field games for different ages and food trucks. Bring a chair or blanket and settle in at Drake Field for a summer evening of baseball.

Peach State Cornhole League
When: Monday, July 13, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM
What: The Peach State Cornhole League returns to Line Creek Brewing Company for its weekly Monday night games. Players and spectators can spend the evening watching organized cornhole matches at the brewery. Mr. Joe’s Fine Foods is also scheduled to serve food from 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.

Shakespearean Society at the Library
When: Tuesday, July 14, 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM
What: Teen participants can explore Shakespeare’s influence on literacy, modern media and society through activities, discussions and film presentations. The monthly program is intended for ages 13 to 18 and is free to attend.

You Should Read This! Book Club
When: Tuesday, July 14, 6:15 PM – 7:15 PM
What: The Peachtree City Library’s adult book club will discuss “True Grit” by Charles Portis, along with Western stories, gunslingers and other books from the genre. Participants are encouraged to bring their own reading recommendations. The program is free and open to adults, with registration encouraged but not required.

A Midsummer Night’s Dance Series

What: Line Creek Brewing’s Bus Barn is hosting another evening in its summer dance series. Tuesday specials at the Bus Barn also include discounted pints and retail beer for Bike Night.

The program is designed for ages 2 to 5 and is free and open to the public. No registration is required, but space is limited.

Design Your Dream Life: The Five Types of Wealth

The conversation covers subjects such as time, relationships, health and personal goals. The program is free, and no registration is required.

Enchanted Zoological Center Animal Program

What: The Fayette County Public Library is hosting an educational animal show presented by the Enchanted Immersive Zoological Center. Children and families can meet live animals while learning how some modern species are connected to the creatures that lived during the age of dinosaurs. Free and open to the public.

Tie-Dye Event at Awkward Brewing
