Of course, “outside” is a relative term when the Georgia humidity is so thick that my front door looks like it just stepped out of a hot shower.

Luftgekühlt 12 will bring one of the world’s best-known air-cooled Porsche gatherings to the Town at Trilith on Saturday, October 10, marking the event’s first appearance in the American South. The Fayetteville showcase will feature rare road cars, historic race cars, preserved vehicles, exhibitor displays, and live programming throughout the development. Organizers also plan to recognize Porsche’s 75-year motorsports history with a collection of significant competition cars. A smaller welcome party will be held Friday, October 9, featuring selected vehicles and evening hospitality. Trilith was selected in part because of its creative setting and proximity to Porsche Cars North America’s headquarters and Porsche Experience Center. The event is also expected to attract current and former motorsports figures, private collectors, and Porsche enthusiasts from across the region. Tickets are now available.
After completing 50 patrols across Fayette County’s lakes and waterways, Deputy Marshal Brian Hitchcock has earned the Marshal’s Office Marine Patrol Qualification. The recognition marks a major experience milestone for deputies assigned to boating and water-safety enforcement. Their work includes monitoring boating activity, responding to public-safety concerns, and enforcing conservation and criminal laws on the county’s waterways. Marine patrol duties require specialized preparation. Deputies first complete 30 hours of classroom instruction and practical training aboard the county’s patrol boats before building experience through regular assignments on the water. Hitchcock received his qualification device during a recent presentation ceremony. Deputy Marshal David Colley, who helped train him and earned the same distinction in 2025, performed the pinning. Hitchcock is now one of four current Fayette County marshals to hold the qualification.
Roller-coaster enthusiasts from across the country and overseas are traveling to Fayetteville for one last ride on ArieForce One before Fun Spot America Atlanta closes August 2. The $18 million coaster opened in 2023 and quickly earned a devoted following for its 64 mph speed, steep drops, inversions, and repeated moments of weightlessness. Fans currently rank it among the world’s best roller coasters, and some visitors have taken flights or driven several hours specifically to ride it before the park shuts down. Its short lines were part of the attraction, allowing dedicated fans to ride repeatedly in a single visit. Now, many are treating the closure as a final goodbye. Some enthusiasts hope another amusement park will purchase and relocate ArieForce One, although the cost of dismantling and rebuilding the coaster could make that difficult.
