I don’t know about you, but I have been thoroughly enjoying the World Cup. Team USA has given us plenty to cheer about so far, and I finally got to watch one of the games at Trilith’s Soccer on the Lawn. They had the big screen set up, the crowd was into it, and even with the heat, it was a pretty great way to watch a game without making the drive to Mercedes-Benz Stadium. I also took full advantage of having the movie theater right there. A big bucket of movie theater popcorn while watching the U.S. play in the World Cup? Hard to beat that. There is something fun about watching a game like that with other people around. The cheers feel a little louder. The close calls feel a little more stressful. And for a couple of hours, everyone is staring at the same screen, pulling for the same thing. Team USA plays again this Thursday against Turkey at 10 PM.

Fayette County commissioners held the first public hearing for the Fiscal Year 2027 budget on June 11, with the proposed spending plan now totaling about $154.7 million, including $10.6 million for capital projects. The board also approved a five-percent pay increase for certain elected officials and constitutional officers, excluding commissioners. That raised a separate discussion about commissioner compensation, which is currently limited by state law and would require a future legislative process to change. Commissioners voted 3-2 to have staff bring back possible options for adjusting board pay at a future meeting. Any change would not affect the current budget cycle and could take years to go into effect. The next budget hearing, where adoption may be considered, is scheduled for June 25.
Longtime Fayetteville neuropsychologist Dr. Lynda Boucugnani-Stout has released her second book, The Story of Us, a fictional novel shaped by her life experiences and decades of work helping families understand how children think, learn, and grow. The book follows Robbie and Jeanette through a story that explores love, grief, faith, childhood trauma, and the search for meaning. While fictionalized, the novel draws from many of the lessons Boucugnani-Stout has gathered through her personal life and professional career. Before this release, she wrote Journey under the name Dr. Lynda Boucugnani-Whitehead after the loss of her daughter. Her latest work continues that focus on healing, but through a broader story about resilience, relationships, and the possibility of finding happiness later in life.
A new Italian restaurant from the team behind ENZO Steakhouse & Bar is opening Tuesday, June 23, in Peachtree City’s Kedron Village Shopping Center. Bicicletta is led by chefs Andrea Montobbio and David Gibbs and blends Italian cooking with the city’s cycling culture. The restaurant will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday, with a menu featuring handmade pastas, thin-crust pizzas made with 72-hour fermented dough, seasonal salads, Italian wines, spritzes, house-made gelato, and grab-and-go items. The 3,500-square-foot space includes an open kitchen, bar seating, communal tables, vintage cycling details, and a small market area. Outside, guests will find a dog-friendly patio, lawn games, a bocce court, and bicycle racks.

Adoptable at Fayette County Animal Control
Fayette County’s government calendar starts Monday with three items that each touch a different part of civic life. The day begins at 2:00 PM with the Fayette County Board of Elections and Voter Registration holding a special called meeting at the county’s public meeting room in Fayetteville to review precinct returns from the June 16 runoff. This is administrative election work rather than campaign politics, but it is part of how local results move toward certification.
At 5:00 PM, Peachtree City Council turns its attention to the proposed FY2027 budget during a workshop. Budget workshops are worth watching because they are where spending priorities, staffing needs, service levels, and future projects begin to come into focus before a final vote ever happens. Later that evening, Peachtree City’s Planning Commission is scheduled to meet at 6:30 PM at City Hall, which makes Monday a useful night for anyone following development, zoning, site plans, and how growth is managed in the city.
Tuesday brings two local meetings at almost the same time. Fayetteville’s Planning and Zoning Commission meets at 6:00 PM in the City Hall Council Chambers. These meetings tend to be where residents get an early look at development requests, zoning changes, and land-use questions before they move farther through city government. Then at 6:30 PM, Peachtree City’s Transportation Advisory Group meets at the Convention and Visitors Bureau. That board focuses on transportation needs, including the city’s path system, road connectivity, and other mobility issues that affect daily life around Peachtree City.
Wednesday is quiet for regular board, council, and authority meetings based on the official sources checked.
Thursday is the busiest day on the calendar. The Fayette County Development Authority meets at 4:00 PM at 255 Glynn Street South in Fayetteville. That board is tied to economic development, business recruitment, site activity, and the kind of behind-the-scenes work that can eventually shape jobs and investment around the county. An hour later, the Fayette County Board of Commissioners meets at 5:00 PM at the county administrative complex. County commission meetings are usually the main place to watch county services, budgets, land use, infrastructure, and broader policy decisions.
The evening wraps with the Tyrone Planning Commission at 7:00 PM. Planning commission meetings are easy to skip until something is happening near your neighborhood, but they are often where zoning, development, and growth questions first become visible to the public.
