Good morning, Fayette County.
As I’m typing up this week’s Flyer, I have a brand new American flag leaning against the corner of my office wall. It’s headed for the front porch tomorrow, but for now it’s just sitting there, reminding me how remarkable it is that this country is about to mark 250 years.
A lot has changed since the first version of that flag. More stars have been added, generations have come and gone, and our country has been tested at home and abroad. But here we still are, getting ready for another Fourth of July, hanging flags on porches, gathering with neighbors, and finding ways to celebrate the place we call home.

Fun Spot America will permanently close its Fayetteville amusement park after its final day of operation on August 2, ending a long run for a property many local families first knew as Dixieland Fun Park. The Orlando-based company said its Florida parks in Orlando and Kissimmee will remain open, and existing season passes and gift cards will be honored there through their expiration dates. The Fayetteville park will continue normal hours, 10 AM to 10 PM, through closing day. Fun Spot bought the former Dixieland property in 2017 and later added major attractions, including the ArieForce One roller coaster, which brought national attention from coaster fans. For Fayette County, the closure marks the end of a familiar family destination that has been part of local childhoods, birthdays, and summer memories for decades.
Trilith Foundation will host its 2026 Flourishing Summit on Thursday, September 3, at Trilith LIVE in Fayetteville. The one-day gathering is centered on what it means for people and communities to flourish in everyday life, including work, relationships, health, purpose, creativity, and culture. The summit is designed to bring researchers and culture-shapers into the same room for conversations that connect data with real-world impact. A major focus will be the Global Flourishing Study, with researchers from Harvard and Baylor expected to share findings on human wellbeing in a way that is practical and accessible. The speaker lineup includes Baylor University’s Byron R. Johnson, with additional programming focused on turning research into meaningful action.
Fayetteville Police Maj. Chad Myers recently completed Session 298 of the FBI National Academy, a 10-week professional development program for law enforcement leaders. The academy brings officers from across the country and around the world together for advanced training in leadership, communication, fitness, and modern policing practices. The program is designed to help participants strengthen their skills while building professional relationships with other public safety leaders. For Fayetteville, Myers’ completion of the program brings additional training and perspective back to the local police department. City officials said the achievement reflects his commitment to professional growth and to serving the community with integrity and innovation.

Adoptable at Fayette Humane Society
The week opens Monday at 8:30 AM in Fayetteville with a special called meeting of the arbitration panel appointed to consider the City of Fayetteville’s proposed annexation of parcels near Hwy. 54 and Lester Road, totaling about 37 acres. That meeting is set for the Fayetteville City Hall Council Chambers at 210 Stonewall Avenue West. For local readers, this is the one to watch if they follow growth, annexation, and city-county boundary questions around Fayetteville.
Thursday brings the next confirmed meeting, this time in Tyrone. The Tyrone Town Council meets at 7:00 PM at Town Hall, 950 Senoia Road. The posted agenda includes a salary/classification study proposal from UGA’s Carl Vinson Institute, a public hearing on a front-yard setback variance at 541 Senoia Road, and a request tied to a Downtown Development Authority-sponsored Night Market at Shamrock Park. That makes it a useful meeting for Tyrone readers interested in town operations, a specific zoning variance, and future downtown-style events.
Summer Movie Series: Smurfs

Ribbon Cutting: Two Birds Foundation
When: Tuesday, June 30, 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
What: The Fayette Chamber is hosting a ribbon cutting and fundraising event for Two Birds Foundation. Guests can learn about the nonprofit, enjoy a Bundtini, browse a silent auction, and visit pop-up shops from Kendra Scott and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Free to attend.

Sound Healing Journey

Flamingo Frolic Paint Night
When: Tuesday, June 30, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM
What: Pixi’s Palette Playground and Line Creek Brewing Bus Barn are hosting a Flamingo Frolic Paint Night in Fayetteville. Guests will paint a 12x16 canvas, and no experience is needed. All supplies are included, and guests can grab a drink, relax, and create during the evening. Tickets are $35. Seats are limited, registration closes June 27, and no walk-ins will be accepted.

Pinecrest Kids Camp: Emerald Crossing
When: Wednesday, July 22 – Friday, July 24, 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM each day
What: Pinecrest Kids Camp is taking kids on an Irish-themed adventure through “Emerald Crossing,” where they’ll explore the words of Psalm 23 and learn how faith can help them move from worry to peace, fear to faith, and uncertainty to a firm foundation in God’s Word. The camp includes lessons, music, games, snacks, science, and crafts, and is open to kids who have completed kindergarten through 5th grade.

Atlanta Pops Orchestra: Celebrating America featuring David Phelps

What: Trilith LIVE is inviting metro Atlanta to celebrate America’s 250th birthday with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra’s “Celebrating America,” featuring Grammy Award-winning vocalist David Phelps. The evening will include patriotic favorites, sweeping orchestral arrangements, and inspirational music, including renditions of “America the Beautiful,” “God Bless America,” and more.
