Good morning, Fayette County.
I love springtime, but there is one thing that drives me crazy every single year. The allergies. And honestly, it wouldn't be so bad if it was just allergies. But the first couple of days are always a psychological battle. Am I sick? Are these allergies? Is it a cold? Didn't I just have a cold two weeks ago? Then you're standing in the medicine aisle trying to match your symptoms to the back of a box like it's a multiple choice test you didn't study for. I only have two of the three symptoms listed on this one, so is it even the right thing? Meanwhile your eyes are watering and you're sneezing in the middle of the store like you're auditioning for a Mucinex commercial. Anyway, drink your orange juice or whatever immune boosting concoction you swear by, just in case. Spring in Georgia is beautiful but it comes at a price.

When NASA's Artemis II mission launched April 1, two Peachtree City companies were part of the team. Timber Product Inspections and Universal Environmental Services both contributed to the historic mission, joining Griffin's GM Diecron. Fayetteville native Nick McCay, a mechanical engineer who designed the rocket's ignition systems, was among the local talent behind the scenes. "It's an honor to have Fayette County companies contributing to this milestone," said Rep. Brian Jack. A reminder that big things are happening right here at home.
The Tyrone Town Council voted to support a resolution backing a transportation connectivity study along Highway 54 between Fayette and Coweta counties. The study will assess traffic flow and infrastructure needs along one of the region's busiest corridors. Tyrone's participation signals growing cooperation between neighboring counties as south metro Atlanta continues to expand. Residents who commute along Hwy 54 will want to watch for updates as the study progresses.
Construction on Fayetteville's downtown alleyway improvement project resumed on after a pause caused by litigation. City officials expect the work to take two to three months, putting completion on track for this summer. The project sits behind the buildings on the west side of the courthouse square. The plan is to shift the existing driveway several yards to the west, making room for a pedestrian-friendly courtyard plaza. The concept has been in the works for close to a decade. Construction originally began in September 2024 with a target completion of summer 2025, but the legal issues pushed that timeline back. Businesses surrounding the construction area will stay open during the work. Free parking is available around the courthouse square, at the Fayette County Government Complex, and in nearby lots.
