Good morning, Fayette County.
I hope your week is off to a good start. April is here and that means one thing in Georgia. The Great Grooming has begun. Hundreds of dollars on pine straw. Hours behind a mower. All to create a yard you only ever see from the driver's seat on your way to work.
This week, I am making a point to spend as much time sitting on the porch as I do manicuring the dirt. A weed in the flower bed is a small price to pay for a conversation with a neighbor walking by. We work so hard to make our homes look "neighborly" from the street that we forget to actually be a neighbor on the sidewalk. Put the edger down. Pull up a chair. Wave at somebody.

Peachtree City employees are getting a pay bump after the City Council approved a 2 percent cost-of-living adjustment at its April 2 meeting, adding roughly $256,000 to the annual payroll. The council also kicked off work sessions on several upcoming projects: a proposed roundabout at Peachtree Parkway and Robinson Road, an amendment that would allow open containers at The Avenue shopping district, and the city's upcoming annual budget. The city also received $20,000 in Georgia Municipal Association safety and liability grants. Mayor Kim Learnard and City Manager Justin Strickland led the discussions.
Seventeen students from Fayette County Public Schools have been selected as state finalists for the 2026 Governor's Honors Program, Georgia's most prestigious summer academic experience for exceptional high school students. Finalists were named from schools across the district, a reflection of the talent and dedication of students and teachers throughout FCPS. The Governor's Honors Program is a four-week residential program held at a Georgia university each summer, offering coursework and enrichment well beyond the regular school year. The district released the list April 7.
