Good morning, Fayette County.
Before Memorial Day became the unofficial start of summer, it began as something much quieter. In the years after the Civil War, communities across the country gathered to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers, flags, and prayers. The day became known as Decoration Day, a simple name for a solemn act: remembering those who never made it home.
Over time, that tradition became the Memorial Day we know now, a national day set aside to honor the men and women who gave their lives while serving in the United States military. So yes, this weekend may come with cookouts, travel, a little extra time with family, and the feeling that summer is finally getting underway. But before we rush too quickly into all of that, it is worth pausing for the reason behind the long weekend. Some holidays ask us to celebrate. This one asks us to remember.

How High Are Art Prices Today? The Latest from Spring Auctions…
$85,800,000 for a Rothko
$98,385,000 for ANOTHER Rothko
$107,585,000 for a Brancusi sculpture
$181,200,000 for a Pollock
Sounds crazy, but those masterpieces were once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for the ultra-rich buyers. Postwar contemporary art’s scarcity is largely what’s driven appreciation that’s comparable to even the S&P over the last thirty years.*
Obviously, art investing is out of reach for most people.
But since 2017, Masterworks has taken a data-driven approach to investing in art, making it accessible to individual investors.
Masterworks members can invest in shares of artwork by Rothko, Basquiat, Warhol, and others. When a piece sells, they get a share of the proceeds.
Over $1.2 billion has been deployed across over 500+ artworks. And 29 exits to-date have delivered net annualized returns like 16.5%, 17.6% and 17.8% on pieces held longer than a year, not including those unsold.

Fayette Forward has introduced ConnectFayette, a countywide initiative focused on creating a more connected system of multi-use paths across Fayette County. The effort builds on the county’s existing foundation of about 140 miles of paths, with the goal of making it easier for residents to walk, bike, explore, and move between communities.
The name was selected through a recent community survey that drew more than 700 votes. ConnectFayette emerged as the top choice, reflecting residents’ interest in a more unified path network. Fayette Forward also partnered with local consultant Katie Quattlebaum of Elevating Missions Consulting to create a logo for the initiative. The design uses colors to represent Fayette’s communities and flowing lines to symbolize movement, connection, and outdoor access across the county.
Drivers should prepare for overnight road work on Highway 85 in Fayetteville beginning Tuesday, May 26, weather permitting. The Georgia Department of Transportation will repave a 1.9-mile stretch between the Don Easterbrook Way/Highway 92 North intersection and Ramah Road. Work is expected to take place over several nights, with crews operating after 8 p.m. and wrapping up before 6 a.m. each day to help reduce daytime traffic impacts. Traffic control devices will be in place throughout the project area. Motorists are urged to slow down, use extra caution, and watch for workers and equipment while traveling through the construction zone. Drivers may want to allow extra time when traveling through the area overnight.
Kedron Elementary computer science teacher Erin Keith is helping students build confidence by showing them what they can create with technology. Keith, who was inspired by her own teachers as a child, began her career teaching English and coaching volleyball before discovering a passion for educational technology during virtual learning in 2020. That experience led her to computer science, where she now teaches students block coding, robotics, mobile app development, and 3D modeling. One of her proudest moments came when two students designed a control panel cover to help prevent accidental button presses in special education classrooms. Their invention is now being used by teachers across the county. Erin’s goal is simple: help students believe they can solve real problems and leave her classroom more confident than when they arrived.
