Good morning, Fayette County.

I was leaving church yesterday and my eyes started to feel heavy. Turns out I wasn't ready for a nice Sunday nap, I was feeling the effects of pollen season kicking into gear! If you've noticed a yellow dusting on your car or a little extra scratchiness in your throat, you're not alone. Spring is making its presence known here in Fayette County, and the trees are wasting no time. Grab your allergy meds and keep those windows up, because it's only going to pick up from here.

But don't let a little pollen keep you inside, there's plenty going on around the county this week.

THE DIGEST

Tyrone Approves Microsoft Data Center, Unveils Downtown Revitalization Plans

Tyrone has approved zoning for a Microsoft data center spanning approximately 147 acres on North Highway 74. The project will include two buildings of about 250,000 square feet each, bringing dozens of high-paying tech jobs and a significant boost to the tax base. Town Manager Brandon Perkins shared the news at the Fayette Chamber's recent Economic Development Summit, along with plans for a 106-home Ardmore subdivision near Town Hall, a new Shamrock Park pavilion, and a $10 million grant application for downtown streetscape improvements. The town's millage rate has held steady for 18 consecutive years.

Peachtree City earns "City of Civility" designation from Georgia Municipal Association

Peachtree City has been officially recognized as a City of Civility by the Georgia Municipal Association, joining communities across the state committed to fostering respectful dialogue in local government. The designation came after PTC Council adopted a civility resolution during its February 12 meeting. Mayor Kim Learnard said the recognition "reinforces what Peachtree City strives to be every day — a community where residents feel welcome to participate, share ideas, and engage in thoughtful dialogue." The honor is part of GMA's Embrace Civility program, created in partnership with Georgia City Solutions.

Fayette County Road Closures

Fayette County officials have announced two upcoming construction projects that will require temporary lane closures throughout the area. In the Town of Tyrone, a section of Spencer Lane between Palmetto Road and Wynfield Road will close for approximately one week starting March 2 to accommodate work on a new roundabout, provided the weather cooperates. During this time, residents traveling from the Wynfield subdivision can turn left onto Spencer Lane toward the Publix shopping center, but they will be unable to turn right toward Palmetto Road.
