Good morning, Fayette County.
If you are working at the office this week and the internet seems unusually slow, there is probably no need to restart the router. It is likely just the arrival of March Madness, as everyone in the building attempts to stream the opening rounds at the exact same time.
It is one of my favorite events of the year, and I have already spent far too much time meticulously picking my brackets. I am feeling dangerously confident that I have finally found the winning combination of teams, though we all know that confidence usually lasts until the first major upset.
If college hoops isn’t your thing, there is still plenty to celebrate this week. Happy St. Patrick’s Day! It is time to grab some corned beef and cabbage and wear a little green to avoid a pinch. Honestly, we do not need a four-leaf clover to see how lucky we are to live in Fayette County.

Fayette County's Planning Commission voted 4-1 on March 5 to recommend allowing the QTS Data Center to lease church parking lots for construction workers during weekdays. The amendment requires a traffic control plan and limits leases to eight years. Board member Jim Oliver pushed back: "Keep your parking on your campus. You have 400 acres." A related proposal to rezone the former Adams Farms property on Highway 54 West for temporary parking was tabled until April 2 amid resident concerns about traffic impacts.
On Friday morning, March 13, 2026, a flight instructor and student safely landed a single engine airplane on Highway 74 in Peachtree City following an unexpected engine failure. The aircraft, belonging to a local flight school, lost power just minutes after taking off from Atlanta Regional Airport Falcon Field. Demonstrating exceptional skill, the instructor successfully navigated around power lines and morning traffic to bring the plane down safely in a southbound right turn lane near the city athletic complex. Both occupants emerged completely uninjured.
Peachtree City Police responded to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. and managed traffic while waiting for a recovery team. Because of the aircraft wingspan, officers temporarily closed one southbound lane. However, traffic continued to flow, and a private towing service safely transported the plane back to the airport. The highway was completely reopened just over an hour later at 11:32 a.m.
Fayetteville’s own Trilith LIVE served as the backdrop for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual Women Who Lead event on March 11. Nearly 200 business executives and community leaders gathered in the heart of our county to explore the evolving role of women in the workforce. The summit brought together a diverse group of professionals from various sectors, including finance, healthcare, and entrepreneurship, to share insights and best practices for navigating professional challenges.
The day featured a keynote address by Bentina Terry, the President and CEO of Southern Linc and Southern Telecom, who spoke on the importance of courageous and authentic leadership. Throughout the event, attendees participated in focused discussions regarding wellness, financial strategies, and the unique hurdles faced by female entrepreneurs. High profile speakers from organizations like Delta Air Lines, Piedmont Augusta, and Grady Healthcare provided a wealth of knowledge to the local audience. By hosting this gathering in Fayetteville, the Georgia Chamber highlighted the region’s growing influence as a hub for professional development and economic growth. This initiative not only supports current female executives but also aims to inspire the next generation of leaders across the state and right here in our local community.
