Good morning, Fayette County.
The other night I pulled up a chair in the backyard and just listened. The frogs were loud. Like, really loud. It seems like this year especially they've decided to make their presence known.
It took me back to a stretch early in my career when I spent about four months in Puerto Rico. If you've ever been, you know the coquí frog. That little guy is everywhere. On the signs, on the shirts, in the songs but mostly he's in your ears. Every single night, this high-pitched "co-kee, co-kee" fills the air until it becomes the soundtrack of your life down there. You stop noticing it after a while, and then when you leave, you notice the silence.
Sitting in my backyard in Fayette County, hearing our own chorus of frogs going full volume, I got a little bit of that feeling back. Not Puerto Rico, obviously (nobody's confusing Fayetteville with San Juan) but that same sense of a place announcing itself through sound. Spring is here, the frogs are singing, and if you sit still long enough, Fayette County will remind you why you chose to be here.

The Woolsey Town Council approved a request to let Fayette County begin contacting property owners about right-of-way acquisition for the planned roundabout at Hampton Road and State Route 92. County officials said they hope to be ready to write a construction contract by January 2027, with the build expected to take about 18 months once easements are secured. The design calls for a single roundabout with a through bypass lane, chosen by the county and GDOT after considering alternative options during the design phase. A signalized reduced-conflict U-turn is also planned at Hampton Road North and SR 92, along with crosswalks, sidewalks, lighting and drainage upgrades. The council asked the county to look into decorative light poles and will need to weigh in on landscaping for the roundabout's median.
Main Street Fayetteville has announced a full slate of celebrations for Fourth of July weekend. Friday, July 3 kicks off with a performance by the Star Spangled Orchestra at Trilith Live. On Saturday afternoon, the Fayette County Historical Society and the Fayette-Starr's Mill DAR chapter will host a ceremony and ringing of bells at the historic courthouse square marking 250 years of freedom. That evening, Main Street Fayetteville's Fourth of July Bash takes over City Center Park with fireworks, food trucks, a DJ, inflatables for kids and vendors. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
A proposed data center north of the Fayette Pavilion shopping center along Highway 85 North is off the table after developer Crow Holdings Development officially withdrew its appeal. The company presented a site plan to the Fayetteville Planning & Zoning Commission at its January 27 meeting, where commission members voted to deny the project. Crow Holdings then filed an appeal to be heard at the March 19 City Council meeting but pulled it the day before. No reason was given for the withdrawal. The decision ends what had been a closely watched development proposal for one of Fayetteville's busiest commercial corridors.
