Good morning, Fayette County.

We’re starting the day with a little rain, but it’s the kind that clears the way for a beautiful, mild weekend ahead. If the forecast holds, it’s shaping up to be perfect weather to get outside and enjoy the backyard, golf cart paths, and everything happening around town.

A quick thought for the morning: people often wait for motivation before they start something. In reality, motivation usually shows up after you begin. Start the walk and you’ll want to keep walking. Start the project and the energy tends to follow. Momentum is one of life’s most underrated tools. Now let’s get into what’s happening around Fayette County.

THE DIGEST

Sandy Creek Falls in Heartbreaker at State Championship

Sandy Creek's girls basketball team came within seconds of bringing home Fayette County's first Class 3A state title Wednesday night, but Heritage-Catoosa rallied late and escaped with a 65-63 overtime win at the Macon Coliseum. The Patriots (25-7) controlled much of the game behind a dominant performance from Morghan Reckley, who poured in 29 points. Sandy Creek's relentless full-court pressure forced 23 turnovers and helped build a six-point lead with under 90 seconds left in regulation. Deyla McCoy added 22 points in the effort. But Heritage hit a pair of late threes to force overtime, and two technical fouls on Reckley. Heritage sealed it on a layup with 21 seconds remaining. Despite the tough ending, Sandy Creek showed Fayette County belongs on the biggest stage. Making their second championship appearance, the Patriots played with grit and intensity throughout. This young program has every reason to hold its head high and every reason to believe a state title is within reach next year.

The Fred 2026 Concert Tickets Now On Sale

Another great year of live music without having to drive to Atlanta. Tickets for concerts at the Fred Amphitheater in Peachtree City are now on sale for its spring and summer concert lineup. Headlining the 16-act slate is R&B legend Gladys Knight, who RCS Productions president Stephen Moore says is very selective about where she performs. She'll be joined by acts spanning decades and genres, from Atlanta Rhythm Section and Little Feat to Pat Benatar, Bruce Hornsby, Collective Soul and Bret Michaels. Country fans get Josh Turner, while Southern rock lovers can catch Blackberry Smoke, a first-time Fred booking that Moore says is already selling fast. The schedule also features comedian Bill Engvall, a Peppa Pig kids show and popular tribute bands covering Queen, Journey and an Elton John/Billy Joel combo. Individual tickets are for sale through Freshtix.

Fayetteville Hosts U.S. Soccer's Top Young Talent This Week

Fayetteville is getting some national spotlight this week as U.S. Soccer brings 80 of the South region's top under-14 boys to McCurry Park for a talent identification mini-camp running March 12-16. The camp is part of U.S. Soccer's Under-14 Boys' Talent Identification Program, which scouts and develops the next generation of national team players. The 80 invitees, all born in 2012, represent 15 southern states and are split into four sub-regional squads. U.S. Soccer Talent ID Director Garrett Biller will oversee the event alongside regional managers. And Fayetteville isn't done hosting. The North region's U-14 mini-camp arrives in April, followed by the national camp in May, all at McCurry Park. That means three rounds of the country's best young soccer players will train right here in Fayette County this spring. The program is designed to build the pipeline for the U-15 Boys' National Team while introducing players to U.S. Soccer's development philosophy, covering everything from on-field play to nutrition and recovery. Not a bad look for Fayetteville on the national stage.
