TOGETHER WITH

Good morning, Fayette County.

I hope you were around this weekend because the spring weather was absolutely perfect. I was lucky enough to spend most of it outside with family and friends, soaking up every bit of sunshine we could get. The only downside? Realizing just how long my list of outdoor projects has gotten. Between the yard work, the house, and everything else I've been putting off since last fall, I'm honestly surprised the folks at Home Depot don't know me by name at this point. If you see me wandering the aisles again this week, just know I'm doing my best to keep up with spring. I'm also especially excited for all the community events that are starting to fill the calendar. There's a lot to look forward to around here!

THE DIGEST

$300,000 to Support Land Conservation in Fayette and Coweta Counties

The Southern Conservation Trust and Georgia Power have launched the Flint Rising Conservation Assistance Fund, a $300,000 initiative aimed at expanding permanent land conservation in Fayette and Coweta counties. The fund is designed to help local landowners navigate the often costly and complex process of establishing conservation easements, voluntary legal agreements that permanently limit development while keeping land in private ownership. These easements are recorded with the property deed and remain in place forever. Expenses like boundary surveys, appraisals, title opinions, and legal review can deter even the most willing landowners, and Flint Rising was created to bridge that gap. Georgia Power's contribution provides the seed funding SCT has long envisioned to remove those barriers. The initiative supports lands contributing to the health of the Flint River and Chattahoochee River watersheds. SCT is currently developing program criteria and eligibility guidelines, with more details expected later this year.

Sewer Spill Reported in Tyrone

A sewer spill was reported in a wooded area behind homes on Park Haven Lane in Tyrone, prompting a response from the town's Public Works department and emergency contractor crews. Town officials said the cause of the spill had not yet been determined, and environmental personnel were expected to assess the scope of the spill. The Georgia Environmental Protection Agency was notified in accordance with the town's standard response protocol. Public notification signs were placed near the affected area, and residents were urged to stay away from the site and keep pets clear until the signs are taken down. Officials confirmed the spill did not impact the local drinking water supply.

U.S. Department of Energy Spotlights Town at Trilith as Geothermal Case Study

The U.S. Department of Energy recently featured the Town at Trilith in Fayetteville as a case study in residential geothermal heat pump technology. The 235-acre walkable community, located adjacent to one of the largest purpose-built film studios in the country, uses geothermal heat pump systems in every single-family home -- making it one of the largest residential geothermal communities in the nation. Each home, ranging from 350-square-foot micro homes to large custom builds, is heated and cooled by systems that circulate water through underground boreholes, exchanging energy with the earth's naturally moderate temperatures. The DOE highlighted how Trilith's developers built geothermal into the project from the ground up, setting building standards that exceed local codes and housing all equipment indoors to extend system life and eliminate outdoor condenser noise. With 350 homes completed and 750 planned at full build-out, Trilith stands as a model for energy-efficient residential development.
