Good morning, Fayette County.
What a weekend to be an American! Team USA walks away with 33 medals, including 12 gold from the Winter Olympics. But the real exclamation point happened Sunday when the U.S. men’s hockey team took down Canada 2-1 in overtime. Watching a bloodied Jack Hughes, teeth freshly knocked out, bury the overtime winner exactly 46 years to the day after the Miracle on Ice was enough to give anyone chills.
Closer to home, we have to shout out Douglasville’s own Elana Meyers Taylor. At 41, she captured her first individual gold in the monobob, making her the oldest woman to ever do so. She’s now tied with Bonnie Blair as the most decorated American woman in Winter Olympic history. The highlight for most of us, though? Watching her sign the word "champion" to her two deaf sons from the finish line. Let that winning energy carry you into the week ahead, Fayette County!

The city reported $10.5 million in construction activity, over 1,300 building permits, and 38 new business licenses issued last year. City Manager Ray Gibson outlined the five-year Reimagining Fayetteville plan, which targets downtown revitalization, sports tourism, and the 38-acre Meridian on the Square mixed-use development. With US Soccer's national headquarters taking shape nearby and Trilith Studios continuing to expand, officials say Fayetteville is poised for its most transformative year yet.
