Good morning, Fayette County,
Nearly 2,000 years ago, the Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius put a surprisingly ordinary struggle into writing: getting out of a warm bed to face the day.
In Meditations, his collection of personal reflections, he coached himself through that reluctance. He pointed to birds, ants, and bees going about their work, each contributing to the world around them. His reminder to himself was simple: he had a part to play too.

At Sara Harp Minter Elementary, Alison Kirkland gets to watch children grow up one music lesson at a time. The longtime music specialist teaches every student from pre-K through fifth grade at least once a week, building relationships that can stretch across a child’s entire elementary school experience. She also directs Minter’s chorus, preparing students for a spring performance and appearances at school celebrations throughout the year. Her work reaches beyond Minter. Kirkland coordinates district performing arts opportunities, helps manage Governor’s Honors Program auditions and interviews, leads a summer STEAM camp, and teaches private lessons while pursuing her doctorate. Throughout that busy schedule, her goal stays personal: help children discover confidence, understand other cultures, and feel connected through music.
Tyrone’s biggest hometown celebration returns October 2–3, with a new attraction joining the familiar favorites: the first Founders Day Car Show. The Friday evening showcase runs from 5–9 p.m., featuring classic, custom, antique, and specialty vehicles, plus awards and food vendors. It opens a weekend centered on Shamrock Park and the town’s history. Saturday starts with an 8 a.m. 5K benefiting the Rotary Club of Tyrone’s community service projects. At noon, the parade travels from Handley Park to Tyrone Elementary School under this year’s All Aboard Tyrone theme. Live music, vendors, family activities, and a fireworks finale round out the 49th annual celebration. Drivers who use Industrial Way in Fayetteville should allow extra time this week. Milling and repaving are scheduled for Monday, September 21, through Wednesday, September 23, weather permitting. Contractors working for the city’s Public Works Division will limit traffic to one lane during the project. Traffic control devices will guide motorists through the work area, where delays are possible. The city is asking residents, employees, and visitors to keep parked vehicles off Industrial Way while crews complete the work. Anyone planning a stop along the road should account for that restriction before arriving. Slow down around workers, watch for pedestrians and changing traffic patterns, and leave room in your schedule for a slower trip. Weather could affect the three-day timetable.
