Good morning, Fayette County. This Monday, we pause to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose courage and conviction changed the course of American history. Born just 30 miles north of us in Atlanta, the Reverend King walked these Georgia roads and preached in these Georgia churches, making his legacy feel close to home.
What strikes me most about Dr. King was his willingness to keep going when progress seemed impossibly slow. He understood that real change happens not in a single moment, but through countless small acts of persistence and faith. That's a lesson that applies whether you're fighting for a cause or simply trying to make your corner of the world a little better.
Many in our community will gather today for Fayetteville's annual MLK Jr. Parade, a tradition that brings neighbors together to celebrate Dr. King's legacy. If you make it out, you'll find yourself among friends and families bundled up against the January chill, waving flags and honoring a man who answered a calling and changed a nation. If the day finds you at home instead, take a quiet moment to reflect on what we're building here in Fayette County and who we're building it for.
